Tremor

Tremor approaches peace not as a completed event but as a process that advances, reverses, pauses, and begins again. The work draws on PA-X, a database of 2,144 agreements across 175 peace processes, and traces movement through five broad stages: ceasefire, pre-negotiation, framework, implementation or renegotiation, and renewal.

Each process is translated into a sine-wave system. Vertical position marks its stage; deviation from its mean stage controls amplitude; the frequency of changes determines oscillation and pitch range; and the number of agreements signed in a year governs sonic intensity. Historical sequences become a field of suspended, continually moving forms rather than a single linear timeline.

A touchpad lets visitors locate, activate, and compare individual processes. As selections accumulate, their sounds overlap and the installation becomes an unstable collective composition—one shaped by recurrence, divergence, and the long duration of negotiation.
